Chapter 1603 Lost In A Wrong Turn:>15

  • "Because I got tired of them kissing my ass," Laurie said quietly. "I'm not saying that they are all bad people. But most of them hung out because of who my father is. And the ones that didn't care about my father weren't exactly interested in my conversation. They would agree with anything I said just for a chance to get into my pants. I realize that I'm not the best speaker in the world, and maybe I'm not going to be breaking any IQ records anytime soon, but I didn't want to be treated like a blow-up doll with a trust fund. Then I saw you. And despite what you think, you ARE beautiful. You're way more beautiful than those other people who were always hanging around me. You're smart and sexy. You were always so passionate about what you believed. If you were a guy, which thank God you're not, you'd be the guy my parents warned me about. Or at least which Amelia warned me about. And when I said something stupid, you told me it was stupid. No one had ever been honest with me before. And . . . this sounds pathetic the more I think about it, but . . . when you yelled at me, at least it meant you had noticed me. At least it meant that you were paying attention to me. And that was better than nothing at all."
  • Heather grabbed her by the shoulders and held her still. "You're right. You deserved to be treated better. But not just by your so-called friends. I should've treated you better, and you shouldn't let anyone, even me, talk to you like that." She kissed Laurie full on the lips in the middle of the produce section. They had to break the kiss at long last before it escalated into a criminal misdemeanor. Laurie was blushing again when it ended. "I may yell some more down the road. But that's just because I like yelling. But the only thing that would make me feel less about you is if you let me or anyone treat you with anything but respect." Heather grinned. "And by the way, you know there are better ways of getting peoples' attentions than setting their cars on fire."
  • Laurie laughed at that. "Maybe, but it DID get you to chase after me."
